Are you forced to lie or sit down a lot? A medicinal sheepskin might be just right for you! Medicinal sheepskins help prevent pressure ulcers / pressure sores.

Medicinal sheepskins come from the Australian Merino sheep breed, which is known for the density of the wool and the fineness of the fibers.

Medicinal sheepskins are characterized by the following properties:

  • Temperature regulating
  • Pressure regulating
  • Moisture absorbing
  • Irritation-free
  • Antibacterial
  • Washable

Temperature regulating

Due to the still air between the small curled wool fibers, it is an excellent insulation material. The wool regulates the heat by adapting to the body temperature. Because of this, it feels pleasantly warm in winter and wonderfully cool in summer.

Pressure regulating

Merino sheepskins are extra thick with wool, which makes them provide more support. The sheepskins are also shorn to a length of approx. 3 to 4 cm. This leaves enough air between the wool to regulate the temperature and provides a soft, comfortable firmness that distributes the pressure on the body.

Moisture absorbing

Wool can absorb 30 to 40% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. Up to a moisture content of 15 to 17%, there is no change in the fibers, allowing it to retain its characteristic properties.

Antibacterial

Wool is naturally self-cleaning due to lanolin (wool fat). With heat and moisture, the wool fat partially turns into lanolin soap, which breaks down bacteria. You only need to beat the skin occasionally.

Washable

Because the skin is tanned in a special way, it has its characteristic yellow color. This tanning method also makes the skin washable. If you want to wash the skin, do so on a wool wash program at 30 degrees. After washing, gently but thoroughly wring out the skin. Then let it dry without exposure to a heat source. So not in the sun, over the heater, or in the dryer.

The wool of a sheepskin stays clean due to the presence of natural wool fat (lanolin). Therefore, dirt cannot attach itself to the wool. So you do not need to wash the skin, but you can, so we recommend not doing so! By maintaining it in the right way, you ensure that you keep the skin beautiful for a long time:

  • Regular combing helps the skin maintain a beautiful, soft appearance.
  • Dab away small dirt with a damp cloth. Try to keep the leather side dry.
  • Occasionally let the skin air out outside or beat it with a mat beater, for example.
  • If necessary, vacuum the skin on low suction with the grain.
  • Do you have a dyed skin? Avoid letting it lie in direct sunlight. This can cause the skin to discolor.
